Revd. Canon Alyson Dunlop Shanes is an Old Catholic priest, theologian, author, broadcaster and spiritual healer (exorcist).
She has a classics degree from the University of Glasgow and has an interest in supernatural religion, beliefs, and experiences. She founded SPI Scotland Facebook group in 2014. This group metamorphosed into Supernatural Secrets Scotland in 2025. Alyson continues to organise events for Supernatural Secrets Scotland and co-organise the Supernatural Secrets Symposium.
Alyson has appeared on TV and radio to discuss various spiritual, religious, and mystical subjects. Alyson hosts and produces her own radio show, ADX-Files, and is the author of several books, including her latest, Mystic Visions. This book documents her own many and varied supernatural experiences, as well as those who have encountered similar phenomena. She is a contributor to numerous podcasts and paranormal magazines.
Revd. Alyson was ordained deacon by Msgr. David Parry at St Valentines Hall, London, in 2018. Her ministry is the theological study of the angelic and the gnostic as well as healing and wholeness in the Holy Spirit. She does healing by laying on of hands and by distance praying which she does freely, as she says: ‘I consider it a gift from God, freely received and therefore it is freely given’.
In January 2024, Alyson was admitted to the Old Catholic Apostolic Church as a deacon and exorcist. See more.
In July 2024, Alyson was ordained as a priest in the Old Catholic Apostolic Church. Her ordination took place in Bolton, England, at the annual OCAC Synod.
Alyson founded Our Lady of the Mystical Rose, which is a liberal catholic church, practising the Liberal Catholic Liturgy and the Roman Rite. It also provides a space for prophecy, healing, and the rosary.
The first mass was on Saturday, 29th March 2025, in the Glasgow Theosophical Society. The initial mass was held by Father Michael Templeton, Vicar General (now, Bishop of Scotland), for the Old Catholic Apostolic Church (OCAC UK and OCAC Scotland).
Alyson was elected a Canon of the OCAC at Easter 2026.
